Indian Summer - Kaivalya Returns
To be asked to perform in New Delhi India in the spring was a dream come true for 5 of our girls. To be asked back at the request of Samsung International was a delight and an honor – a testament to the hard work we put in during round one. As we (Shakti, Breeze and Stephiniti), sat after 17 hours on a plane receiving our debriefing for the coming 3 weeks, we soon realized the sheer magnitude of the event we were about to take on.
The Samsung Olympic Quest sponsored by the Times of India would air live on CNN-IBN on four different occasions in the 4 largest regional cities in India. Starting in Calucutta, then on to Bangalore, Bombay and back to New Delhi for the finals. Kaivalya was to be the primary entertainment for the event, with 2 performances per show. Nestled right in between the closing of Round One of the Olympic themed quiz for India’s top High School students, and the introduction of the Bollywood star of the day, we sat awaiting our cue, hearts thumping – (live television means, error free girls)...”WELCOME all the way from the United States of America, KAIIIIIIIIVALYA!!!!!!” Music blares, pulsating Indian club music, our routine begins with the Olympic rings, Breeze, first to solo begins, doubles on the waist. The live audience, all 4,000 of them, the press pit, production team, President of Samsung and their Asia Pacific Marketing Manager, founder of the Times of India….goes WILD. To an audience that receptive, you can’t help but throw down your best. And we did.
It’s moments like those, as I stood in my place, acutely aware of the all-pervasive hand of the Cosmos that got us there, the land of our namesake, of my personal inspiration – that you (I) remember what gratitude is. To Sujit and Nilesh of KAYALS production, to Samsung, the Times of India, Communique Events, and all the others who played a part and touched our hearts, THANK YOU. You made our trip much more than a show, and we are eternally grateful. Acha hai!
